Tennis Legend Tracy Austin Joins Wellness Campaign

affected.  My first question was, "Will it hurt?"  He said that as an athlete, I had probably suffered more serious injuries that would hurt much more than the small stinging sensation you experience with Juvederm.  He was right.  The pain was virtually unnoticable.  He also reassured me and was able to show me documentation on just how safe Juvederm's products are.  They are FDA approved, which makes you feel better.  I was also concerned about the down time following the procedure.  When I have periodic treatments, I can leave the doctor's office and pick up my kids.  No one can notice that I've had anything done.  I loved the results!  My face is natural looking, and I have no ill effects from the treatments.

When my friends at Juvederm asked me to be a part of the campaign, I obliged because I'm a firm believer in their products and the results I receive from the using them.  I’m very happy to talk about my skin care regimen because I think we are lucky to live in an age where we have so many options that our mothers didn’t have.

Our mothers didn’t have the option of using Botox and Juvederm as part of their overall skin care health and well being.  I think it's important to get the news out there to women and men of all decades.

Boomer:  In way of education, what are you hoping to bring to the active female community who has followed and continues to follow your career and the sport of tennis in general?

Austin:  A big part of this campaign is to raise awareness in both women and men that they need to be seeing their doctor and dermatologist regularly in order to maintain healthy skin.  Growing up, we didn't use sunscreen as much.  We just didn't know all the negatives of tanning and being active outdoors without skin care protection.  I know my skin has suffered because of this.  Now, I put on sunscreen from head to toe each morning.  Even if the forecast calls for cloudy conditions, I use sunscreen.  Aside from sunscreen to protect the skin, this campaign is working to educate people about the proper uses for Botox and dermal fillers.  Botox is used most effectively to help the "11" lines between the eyebrows.  It helps relax the muscles there so the lines aren't so pronounced. Juvederm is a dermal filler used to help fill and restore facial volume.  Botox and Juvederm are two different products intended for use on two very different parts of the face.  The key to both, though, is that they be administered by a true medical doctor, not by the host of a "Botox party."  That is so dangerous.

Boomer:  As far as the exposure you're hoping to bring to people at the tennis and other events, what do you hope will be the outcome of those efforts?

Austin:  It's my hope that the people we meet at events like the U.S. Open and others will be active and interested in outdoor activities.  Hopefully, we'll be able to raise awareness - just as I was made aware - that there are safe treatments available for people who have been exposed to much sunlight and skin damage over the years.  At 45 years old, I still exercise daily and try to stay in shape.  But, the things that were happening to my face just weren't within my ability to fix with weights and running.  I can't stop the aging process.  My dermatologist is simply helping me age gracefully while providing me with a safe skin care alternative to help me continue to look as young as I feel!

Boomer:  Why did you choose personally to get involved with Juvederm's "Decades of Smooth" Campaign?

Austin:  I have to blame it on high definition television, I guess.  As technology has changed, viewers are seeing things so much clearer now on TV.  With the work I do on TV for the U.S. Open and other events, I was noticing just how clearly you can see the lines between my nose and parenthesis around my mouth.  While at my regular skin care checkup, which I do twice a year, I asked my dermatologist if he had suggestions on how I could help slow the deepening of the lines on my face.  He suggested that a dermal filler like Juvederm would fill in and bring back some natural looking volume to those areas that were
